Refinement of Research Methods with Mice

Search Templates * Additional DatabasesElectronic Journals * UCCAA Resources

This search template is designed to provide convenient access to the latest scholarly and research-based information that can improve, or refine, methods used in research with mice. Considering this information can faciliate scientists' compliance with the US Department of Agriculture's requirements to consider alternatives: the 3 Rs--replace, reduce, and refine the use of animals.

Many bibliographic databases, search engines, and journals are available to all users at no cost except the telephone call to gain access, whereas others are fee-based. Institutions such as universities commonly contract with database services to provide complimentary access for their users who have password access. In the search strategies below, the complimentary databases are presented first, followed by other databases that are accessible to users within the University of California community through the comprehensive California Digital Library (CDL). Following the databases are links to additional resources, including sample search engines on web sites, electronic journals, and specialized bibliographies prepared by the UC Center for Animal Alternatives (UCCAA).

Automatic links are built into this template, providing an immediate gateway of access to the other sites indicated. Users from institutions other than the University of California can work in partnership with their librarians to tailor or create new search templates that utilize the local resources their institution provides and that meet the specific needs of their local scientists.

Search Templates:

Medline (PubMed) Searches
The PubMed databases are updated daily and the search results will be listed with the most recently input citations appearing first. The following searches are set to gather three years worth of information on each topic from the PubMed (Medline) database. Please note that the results are provided as a national service and are not linked to any specific library's holdings. Clicking on any of these will set in motion running a current search, using a previously designed search strategy.

AGRICOLA Searches
The AGRICOLA database is updated daily and the search results will be listed with the most recently input citations appearing first. When clicked, a new search is performed, utilizing a stored search strategy. Please note that the results are not linked to any specific library's holdings.
