Alternatives in Europe

A variety of issues concerning animal use is rapidly evolving in some European countries, as well as in the European Union as a whole. One concise source that consistently provides a current update, and keeps track of the various campaigns and legislation, is the EBRA Bulletin. It is published quarterly by the European Biomedical Research Association (58 Great Marlborough Street, London W1V 1DD, United Kingdom). Membership is available at modest cost. The newsletter is distributed free to members and at £13/yr. to others. Some of the current issues are the use of wild-caught primates in experiments, the target of a 50% reduction in the numbers of animals used in experiments by the year 2000, patenting of animals, and alternatives for cosmetic testing.
