Budget Crisis Forces Elimination of Pet Loss Support Hotline

The Pet Loss Support Hotline has been discontinued as of June 27th 2009. Please see the "Pet Loss Support Resources" page on this web site for information about other sources of support for those who are dealing with the loss of a beloved pet.

In response to the devastating financial crisis facing the University and the School, many changes are being made at the School of Veterinary Medicine. According to a June 4th letter to faculty and staff from School Dean Bennie I. Osburn, the School sustained $2.1 million in cuts for the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, and we are anticipating a further cut of $2.6 million for the coming fiscal year 2009-2010. The School has been forced to meet this reduction in funding by reducing and consolidating programs, deferring and re-prioritizing some faculty recruitment, reduction of staff via layoffs and attrition, and eliminating some programs, including the Pet Loss Support Hotline.

We realize you need help now in dealing with the loss of your beloved pet. Please see our "Pet Loss Support Resources" link at the left for other Pet Loss Support Hotline services, web sites, and published materials to assist you in this difficult time.
