Jim Remillard, MPA, CPC, CVPM
Jim Remillard has been involved on a regular basis as a veterinary practice management consultant for over 31 years. Jim has consulted with over 700 hospitals and clinics, practice owners, potential owner and associates in all phases of veterinary practice management — practice start-ups, valuation report preparation, sales facilitation and pre-purchase evaluations & practice mergers; business improvement reviews; strategic planning; financial management and budgeting; personnel selection, training and management systems; doctor recruitment and development/maintenance of compensation plans; practice promotion and client relation programs; preparation of employee handbooks and training manuals. Nearly three dozen of these practices fall into the “mega practice” — referral only, and emergency clinic setting formats, ranging in size up to 15 million dollars per year in revenue generated. Several of these specialty and ER practices I have assisted in the development from inception stage to a successful and mature level, including appraisal and sale.
In addition to his consulting activities Jim served as the General Manager to the prestigious Sacramento Animal Medical Group, a multi-hospital Veterinary Economics “Practice of Excellence” award winning group for 13 years. He has been the long-time consultant (more than 20 years) to the Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic in Northern California, another “Practice of Excellence” award winner and multi-service “mega” practice.
Jim has contributed articles to various practice management newsletters and journals and was one of the major authors of Business Management for the Veterinary Practitioner with Dr. Jim Wilson, and contributed to Blackwell’s Five Minute Practice Management Consult. He has lectured at AAHA Annual, Regional and Business Forum meetings, Specialists in Private Practice, ACVIM, ACVO, Joint California, Nevada and Arizona Veterinary Conference, National Pet Care Centers Annual Meeting, AVPMCA Hot Rocks Programs, UCD VMTH Business Classes, and multiple local Veterinary Medical Associations.
Founding Member of the AVPMCA (now VetPartners), served on its first elected Board of Directors, participates in a variety of committees including the Veterinary Valuations Resource Council, Co-Chairs the Special Interest Group on Specialty and Emergency Practice, currently serves as the Board of Directors Vice President (on track to ascend to the President’s role in 2014), and was awarded the VetPartners Distinguished Life Member Honoree Award in 2009.
