The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Doxie Derby is hosted annually by the second year veterinary student class. The race is held during Picnic Day on the UC Davis campus in the Pavillion at ARC. This 30 year School of Veterinary Medicine tradition features dozens of pedigreed competitors pursuing a simulated rabbit to the finish line. All proceeds from the event help students pay for costs associated with preparation for the board examination.
If you would like to be included on our application mailing list for next year or have any questions please email us at doxiederby2009@gmail.com.
NEW IN '09: The Doxie Derby supports The Josh Project!
In one of UC Davis' School of Veterinary Medicine's many efforts to give back to the community, the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) has partnered with Josh and Friends to bring comfort to sick children during their hospital visits.
The Josh Project was started by Dr. Randy Lange when his own daughter became ill and was frightened about having surgery. Dr. Lange found it difficult to find any materials to explain surgery to a child and with the help of Doug Lesher, the Josh Project was started in 1997 as a means to offer hospitalized children a sense of comfort and companionship during their hospital visits.
With your contribution, Josh and Friends "It'll be O.K." kits will be distributed to children at local hospitals. A kit includes an illustrated "It'll be O.K." book as well as a plush retriever puppy toy named Josh. The story tells of Josh the dog's experience going to the hospital and offers children reassurance in an often scary situation. Your generous contribution can help a child in a time of need by offering both comfort and companionship.
$14.95 will purchase one child an "It'll be O.K." illustrated book, and
$39.95 will purchase one child a kit including the "It'll be O.K." book and a plush golden retriever toy named "Josh." Your donation in any amount is appreciated, and can be added to your Doxie Derby registration fees. For more information on the Josh Project please visit www.joshandfriends.com or www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/SCAVMA/
