Josh Project

Josh KitDr. Randy Lange, a veterinarian in Tennessee, became frustrated at the lack of materials explaining surgery and offering comfort at a child’s level when his young daughter underwent surgery. That, along with his deep understanding of the powerful bond between humans and animals, led him to develop the Josh Kit. A Josh kit consists of a stuffed golden retriever named Josh and a book called “I’ll be OK” that is designed to keep kids company during long and lonely hospital stays.

Josh KitOur SCAVMA organization has been challenged by SAVMA to have a friendly competition with the other veterinary schools to raise money for this project. The Josh Project, as we are calling it, is a great way for you and UC Davis SVM to get involved in the local community to benefit children. Josh Co, LLC, will make a $5 contribution to our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital (UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento) for every kit that we sell and will take the kits to children at the hospital of our choice. In addition, SAVMA will match the winning school's donations (up to $5,000).

If you have ever spent time in a hospital, you know how lonely and scary it can be, especially for a child. Wouldn’t it be great if they could have a stuffed dog and a book to comfort them? Each Josh Kit costs $40, and we are asking for and accepting donations to SCAVMA so that we can purchase as many kits as possible and win the challenge set forth by SAVMA. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000. Please contact joshproject@ucdavis.edu for more information or download the informational flyer below (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
