Guided On-site Presentations/Tours:(by appointment only)

One of our most popular programs, the CRC welcomes hundreds of local school children and interested community members to the CRC every year.

The program averages 1.5-2 hours in length, and starts with an age appropriate interactive informational presentation on local raptors. Many aspects of raptor biology are covered, including adaptations, conservation, and species identification.

The students will have the opportunity to handle the numerous educational talons, bones, feathers and “study skins” used in the presentations. These are clean, taxidermied birds, which are used as visual and tactile aids.

The students will be taken on a tour of our non-releasable birds (the rehabilitation section is off-limits to the public). They are introduced to each individual bird species and their individual personal stories. The tour also includes a visit to the Museum, a hands-on interactive experience both children and adults enjoy tremendously. Dissect an owl pellet, examine raptor radiographs, or handle the wing of a barn owl specimen.

The students then vote on which bird they would like to sponsor, and an ‘Adopt-a-Bird’ packet (consisting of a certificate made out to the individual or class, a large color photo of the adopted raptor, and an information sheet) is sent home with the group.

There is a $1.50 per person charge for children, $3.00 for adults with a $30.00 minimum for all Guided On-Site Presentations.
