3rd International Conference: Advances in Canine and Feline Genomics and Inherited Diseases

The Third International Conference on "Advances in Canine and Feline Genomics and Inherited Diseases " will begin Wednesday August 2nd with an evening Welcome Reception. The scientific conference and events will be held Thursday August 3rd through Saturday August 5th, 2006, at the School of Veterinary Medicine, on the Davis campus of the University of California. The conference will bring together researchers studying the genomes of dogs and cats, as well as those studying comparative genetics, hereditary diseases and polymorphic traits.

Wednesday evening August 2nd will feature the Welcome Reception in the new Veterinary Medical Instructional Facility (VMIF), Gladys Valley Hall, on the UC Davis campus. Parking for the reception and for all conference meetings is available in nearby Lot #56. Please see the campus map for location information. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the scientific meetings and poster presentations will be held at the new Veterinary Medical Instructional Facility at the School of Veterinary Medicine. Adjacent conference rooms plus nearby breakout rooms will allow for both large-group and small-group meetings.

Thursday evening there will be a hosted wine and cheese reception followed by dinner on your own in Old Sacramento, and Friday features a catered dinner and live entertainment at the Buehler Alumni Center on the Davis campus.

Conference registration and abstract submission is being handled by the UC Davis Conference Events and Visitor Services (CEVS) group. The "Registration" link at left will take you to the conference registration log in page. Note: On-line registration closes at 5 p.m. on Friday July 21st. Limited on-site registration will be available at the Welcome Reception on Wednesday August 2nd. Abstract submission closed April 30th.

The city of Davis is conveniently located in the heart of northern California, just 75 miles from downtown San Francisco, 120 miles from Lake Tahoe, and 55 miles from St. Helena in the Napa valley wine region. The San Francisco airport is about a 1-1/2 hour drive (traffic permitting), and the Sacramento airport is about 20 minutes away by car. Bus or train connections as well as airport shuttles are available to/from both airports.

The conference sponsor is Nestlé Purina, and additional contributors include the Canine Health Foundation and the Winn Feline Foundation. The conference will be co-hosted by the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory and the Center for Companion Animal Health, School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis.
