section leader and chief researcher for investigations related to
the survival and transport mechanisms of pathologic microorganisms
within the environment. He is an internationally recognized epidemiologist
who has expertise in environmental animal health, waterborne zoonotic
diseases and infectious disease risk assessment.
Barbara Byrne, DVM, PhD:
Dr. Barbara Byrne is the primary researcher and unit coordinator
for investigations related to the pathogenic characteristics and
host invasion mechanisms of infectious agents. Dr. Byrne is a veterinary
microbiologist with a special interest in Rhodococcal infections
and specialty training in internal medicine. Her position as an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology
and Immunology at UC Davis provides her with unique access, experience
and knowledge of a large repository of infectious pathogens. Her
insight and training in the dynamics of the disease process make
