Equine research is every horse lover’s responsibility. The well-being of our horses depends on continuous advancement in equine research. The Center for Equine Health is supported by private contributions from horse-related organizations, breed clubs, racing associations and horse loving individuals. Additional funding is also generated by the California horse racing industry through a small percentage of satellite wagering funds earmarked for equine research.
Your help is needed to maintain both the quantity and quality of research information being produced. Here are four primary ways in which you can support equine research:
1. Make a gift of cash, securities or real estate.
Most CEH donors send one or more checks per year directly to the Center.
They receive an official acknowledgement of their tax-deductible gift toward equine research by return mail. Individuals who donate $1,000 or more annually qualify for membership in the Silver Stirrup Society and receive
a handsome certificate and special materials rrelated to the Society and its informational programs.
Gifts of securities or real estate that have appreciated significantly during the current economic climate can provide substantial capital gains tax benefits
to the donor as well as help to the CEH.
To donate by mail, please download and print a Center for Equine Health brochure which contains a contribution form and our address. Please make checks payable to UC Regents.

2. Organize a fund-raising event or campaign to benefit the CEH.
Talk with your local horse group or organization to determine how best to raise money for equine research. Develop a plan for a competitive event, party or fundraising drive from which the proceeds can be directed toward the CEH.
3. Designate the CEH as a beneficiary in your estate planning.
Some horse enthusiasts would like to make a significant gift toward equine research but lack the current means to do so. Many of these individuals include the CEH in their will or revocable living trust.
An increasing number of successful horse lovers find themselves with accumulated assets such as stocks or real estate that are highly appreciated
but provide only modest income. These assets are ideally suited for charitable trusts or gift annuities that provide annual income to the donor and a sizable gift for equine research at a later date.
4. Create an Endowment.
An endowed gift allows for long-term planning. The principal is invested and returns annual interest. Part of the annual interest is reinvested to increase
the principal, and part is used for the purpose intended (such as a yearly scholarship). Endowed funds usually carry the benefactor’s name.
