CEH Grants

Veterinary residents, graduate academic students and faculty of:
School of Veterinary Medicine, UCD
Department of Animal Sciences Equine Program, UCD
Equine Programs, California State Universities

The Center for Equine Health disseminates funds generated through grants, gifts, and donations to research. Decisions on which research projects to fund are made by a Scientific Review Committee, comprised of faculty members from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, with approval by the CEH director.

CEH Awards

Wilson Award for Outstanding Research Publication ($1,000) Deadline:  December 16, 2016, by 5:00 pm

For outstanding research publication authored by a graduate academic student or resident.  This award covers travel expenses to present the paper at a scientific session and a commemorative plaque. 

Recipients of the award must provide a lay summary of their publication suitable for publication in the CEH Horse Report and an oral presentation before an industry group as arranged by the CEH.  The criteria for selection will be scientific merit and relevance of the findings to the equine industry by a faculty panel review. More than one manuscript per resident or graduate student is permitted. 

Applicants must submit the following by the deadline:

  • Three (3) hard copies of a single manuscript published or accepted for publication in a refereed journal or peer-reviewed scientific proceedings during the period July 1, 2015, through October 31, 2016. 
  • A brief biographic sketch of the resident or graduate student (education, veterinary work history, and a statement describing current research focus)
  • Email a .pdf or .doc file copy to cehadmin@ucdavis.edu

Applications for the following endowments should be submitted as an original and two hard copies, in addition to a .pdf or .doc file copy via email to cehadmin@ucdavis.edu, by the submission deadline shown above.

Dan Evans Memorial Endowment ($600)
This endowment was established in 1998 in memory of Dr. Dan Evans, a beloved equine practitioner in Escondido, CA.  The annual proceeds are awarded for clinical studies in equine medicine or surgery.

John Hughes Memorial Endowment ($1,000)
This endowment also was established in 1998 in memory of Dr. John Hughes, the founding director of the Center for Equine Health.  Annual earnings are used to support clinical studies in equine medicine, reproduction or surgery.

Peray Endowment ($1,000)
This endowment was founded by Harriet V. Tucker in honor of her horse Peray.  Annual income is used to provide veterinary residents with funding for clinical research projects investigating respiratory diseases.
