Colic Team

The Colic Team is an excellent opportunity for freshman, sophomore and junior students to gain additional clinical experience by assisting senior students in the work up of after-hours equine emergencies.

Students are scheduled for 2-3 shifts per month. During their shift, the student will be on call for any equine emergency that may be presented to the VMTH. The amount of hands-on experience will vary depending on the student's experience level, but may include performing physical exams, drawing blood for routine bloodwork, placing intravenous catheters, passing nasogastric tubes, performing abdominocentesis and assisting with abdominal radiographs or ultrasound.

All students are encouraged to participate in this program.

For more information, please contact the Colic Team Coordinator, Shane Nelson (2010).
