Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association Student Chapter (HSVMA)

The HSVMA Student Chapter was created as a local extension of the national HSVMA chapter.  We took their module of providing direct animal care to families in need across the USA and even internationally, and applied it to a local level here in Yolo county. Our goal is to provide future veterinary professionals (i.e. students) with the opportunity to participate in care programs for animals in need and educate the public and others in the profession about animal welfare issues. We hope our program will benefit the surrounding community as well as economically disadvantaged rural communities with limited access to veterinary care. The HSVMA Student Chapter aims to offer both veterinary care to these communities where it is often inaccessible as well to provide training and clinical experience to UC Davis veterinary students interested in field services work. In addition, we hope to spread awareness of animal welfare through fundraising events and community service.
