Mercer Veterinary Clinic for the Homeless

Services

Free Service to the Homeless

The Mercer Veterinary Clinic offers free veterinary care monthly for the pets of the homeless, and is operated by volunteer veterinary faculty, residents and students from the UC Davis Veterinary School and relies entirely on donations. Veterinary faculty who volunteer regularly include Dr. Gallo, Dr. Molly May and Dr. Laurel Gershwin. The Clinic is held the second Saturday of every month at the Loaves and Fishes complex at 1321 West C St. in Sacramento, between 8 AM and 3 PM.

Pets are treated by student volunteers and veterinarians. The students run routine diagnostic tests and treat medical problems, such as ear mites, infections and minor wounds. Those with medical problems requiring surgery, radiology or other advanced care, are referred out on a limited budget to Mercer Veterinary Clinic approved veterinarians in the community. Cases are referred only through our Referral Coordinators. During the month, we help regular Mercer clients with any emergencies their pet may encounter.

The more donations that we receive, the more referral services we are able to provide. To donate, please click here. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
