Foley Laboratory in Infectious Disease Ecology

Amanda! Amanda! Amanda!

Amanda Poulsen

Amanda completed her Master’s degree in Ecology in 2015 from UC Davis. She spent many years in the Foley Lab as an undergraduate intern and then a graduate student where she gained experience with ticks, rodents (especially the endangered Amargosa vole), and diagnostic testing for various zoonotic pathogens. Amanda now works for Santa Cruz County Mosquito and Vector Control where she manages mosquito and tick surveillance for the county to better understand these disease vectors and to minimize their negative impact on public health. She also does a lot of public outreach so that county residents of all ages stay informed about minimizing mosquito breeding sources, reducing contact with vectors, and disease risk especially for West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease.
