Susanne Sokolow studied veterinary medicine and ecology at UC Davis. Her research has focused on diseases in the aquatic environment, including waterborne pathogens and infectious diseases that involve aquatic hosts or reservoirs. She has investigated three main topics in disease ecology:
- Describing the effects of climate change on the dynamics of infectious disease (eg diseases of reef-building coral in the Caribbean)
- Predicting the spatiotemporal spread of pandemic disease (eg influenza virus), and
- Discovering new methods for biological control of infectious disease (eg schistosomiasis in West Africa).
She is currently a post-doctoral scholar at UC Santa Barbara.
