Admission Procedures

The 2008 online application will become available to all domestic and international applicants mid- to late-August with the URL to be provided as soon as possible.

The application fee is $60 for a domestic applicant and $80 for an international applicant which can be paid by a credit card or e-check. Domestic students may obtain the Application for Fellowship from: Graduate Studies Admissions, University of California, One Shields Avenue, Davis, CA 95616, (530) 752-0655 or can apply online.

The following documents are required in addition to the online Application for Graduate Admission: Three letters of recommendation - instructions are provided with the online application. All letters of recommendation must be submitted electronically by the referee. The online application will automatically notify the referee and provide instructions on how to submit their letter. GRE General Test scores, subject test in biology strongly recommended (GRE Institution Code is R4834, Department Code is 0608) and TOEFL or IELTS scores for applicants whose first language is not English (UC Davis requires a minimum of 550 on the paper-based or 213 on the computer-based TOEFL or an overall band score on tthe IELTS) should be reported electronically directly to the institution. One official transcript for each university or college you have attended should be sent under separate cover directly to the gradudate group only after you have marked your application complete. This allows for more efficient and effective matching of transcripts to applicants.

Applicants to the graduate group are expected to have completed basic courses in cell biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry and physics. Minor deficiencies in these subjects can be made up within the first year at Davis.

The Graduate Group in Immunology emphasizes the Doctor of Philosophy program. PhD students are offered a laboratory rotation plan during their first year or may join a specific laboratory directly. The rotation plan is competitive and limited space is available so early application is advised. A Masters Degree Program is also offered. We encourage applications from underrepresented minorities. Applicants are encouraged to contact graduate group faculty members directly if they are interested in finding out more details about specific research programs.

Deadline for all applications (including international students) is January 7 for the fall quarter. It is advisable that applications be submitted at least two months in advance of this deadline. The deadline for students applying for fellowships is January 15th.

All application materials should be submitted to the Immunology Graduate Group. No application will be considered until all required items are received.
