Course objectives
The main objective of this study abroad program is to expose veterinary students to important health issues affecting people and animals in rural communities in Yucatan.
Specific objectives are:
1. To assist the Department of Health in the community of Tzucacab in vaccination efforts against rabies in dogs and cats.
2. To assist in animal control efforts (spay-neuter clinic) in dogs and cats.
3. Identify common GI parasites in dogs.
4. To participate in an epidemiologic study to examine the relationship between GI parasites in dogs, housing conditions, demographic factors and infant health/development.
Program Description
This is an elective course offered in Yucatan, Mexico (1 credit; S/U). The course will be delivered as detailed in the course syllabus (below). This course will be offered in English. Proficiency in Spanish is not required.
