After I graduated from veterinary school in 2000, I spent one year working at the quality assurance department of a poultry processing company. During my working experience, the idea of a PhD program matured and it became clear that I needed to improve my research skills as well as my scientific and critical thinking. So in 2002 I joined the Comparative Pathology Group from the University of California, Davis. I am currently in my fifty year in the program. My research project involves development of a faster and more sensitive diagnostic method for detection of Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in milk. MAP is the causative agent of Johne's disease, also known as paratuberculosis, a chronic granulomatous enteritis that infects ruminants worldwide.

This year I decided to enroll in the MPVM program in addition to my PhD. I believe that the program would be a great addition to my knowledge and will certainly complement and contribute to my education as a veterinarian.
