Admission Information

Candidates for admission to the MPVM program must hold a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or its equivalent and must be approved for admission by the MPVM Admissions Committee. Original transcripts of all prior university work and three letters of recommendation must be submitted with the application. A score of at least 550 (213 on cmputer based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination is recommended for all international applicants whose native language is not English or who have not studied at an institution where English is the language of instruction. A TOEFL score of 500 or above is required. In addition, prior to the beginning of their first quarter of enrollment on the Davis campus, all international students (regardless of TOEFL score) are required to take the English language proficiency examination given by the English Department at the University of California, Davis. Students who do not receive a passing score on this exam will be required to enroll in an English course for foreign students in the fall and perhaps winter quarters. Therefore International students may require two years to complete the MPVM Program.

A veterinarian can now combine MPVM academic training with field service in the Peace Corps as part of the Peace Corps Master's International Program.

“Application deadline for admission for the academic year (which begins in early August) is March 1st of each year for International applicants and April 1st for domestic applicants.” International applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible since places in the program are limited. Applications can be downloaded below or can be requested in writing from: Director, MPVM Program, Office of the Dean, School of Veterinary Medicine, One Shields Avenue, University of California, Davis, California 95616; phone (530)752-1383, fax (530)752-2801.

Offers of admission to the MPVM program will be made no later than April 30 for August of the same year. Students requiring a letter of "provisional admission" to facilitate applications for scholarships and fellowships should contact the MPVM Program Director with that request. Provisional admission can only be granted providing the application is complete and all minimum requirements for admission have been met.
