UC scientists are battling malaria in Africa.

About this Program

The University of California Malaria Research and Control Group, formed in February 2006, is dedicated to defeating malaria in Africa. The 21-member group is comprised of leading UC mosquito vector biologists and California mosquito abatement experts. Malaria, one of the world's oldest and deadliest diseases, kills 8,000 children a day in Africa, or one every 10 to 15 seconds. Nine out of 10 deaths are among sub-Saharan African children below age 5.
