About this ProgramThe University of California Malaria Research and Control Group, formed in February 2006, is dedicated to defeating malaria in Africa. The 21-member group is comprised of leading UC mosquito vector biologists and California mosquito abatement experts. Malaria, one of the world's oldest and deadliest diseases, kills 8,000 children a day in Africa, or one every 10 to 15 seconds. Nine out of 10 deaths are among sub-Saharan African children below age 5.
