UC Malaria Research and Control Group
Greg Lanzaro in Africa
Director Gregory Lanzaro in Mali

Message from the Director

The University of California Malaria Research and Control Group (MRCG) is a unique program that brings together leading UC mosquito vector biologists with California Mosquito Abatement experts. This group is firmly committed to defeating the most formidable and challenging mosquito-borne human disease: malaria.

We believe that the realization of this goal will require close collaboration between academic research scientists and “on-the-ground” mosquito control practitioners.

The UC system serves as academic home to many of the world’s leading authorities on the biology of mosquito disease vectors, with a breadth of research expertise in vector biology that is unparalleled. The California Mosquito Abatement Districts comprise one of the most comprehensive and technically advanced mosquito control programs in the world.

These two groups have a long history of collaboration in efforts aimed at the control of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases in the state. We are now committed to focusing our efforts to the challenge of malaria in Africa and are seeking partners and sponsors to make these goals a reality. — Gregory Lanzaro
