Primary Care Facilities
The OWCN utilizes facilities throughout the state to provide care for oil-affected animals. Between 1994 and 2001, the Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) and the OWN built the Marine Wildlife Veterinary Care and Research Center, the San Francisco Bay Oiled Wildlife Care and Education Center, and the Los Angeles Oiled Bird Care and Education Center. These facilities provide the largest capacity for oil-affected birds and sea otters in the state. Funds are provided on an ongoing basis by OSPR and the OWCN for construction, renovation, and maintenance of other facilities to improve regional oil spill readiness along the entire California coastline.
