SeaWorld uses up-close animal encounters, educational exhibits, and entertainment to teach an awareness of the plight of animals in the wild. The park's commitment to research and conservation also has led to advances in the care of animals in both zoological facilities and wild populations, and it is a global leader in animal husbandry, veterinary care and training.

During oil spills trained SeaWorld staff help utilize the SeaWorld Oiled Wildlife Care Center to care for oiled birds and sea turtles.

SeaWorld joined the OWCN in 1996.
