The OWCN has been activated to respond to reports of oiled birds (western grebes) in the Ventura and Pt. Mugu areas. Thirteen birds were collected yesterday and transported to the LA Oiled Bird Care and Education Center in San Pedro. The OWCN currently has 3 responders in the field working with 3 OSPR personnel to collect and transport oiled birds. January Bill was deployed to the LAOBCEC to lead the animal care effort. As of 1200, five more heavily oiled western grebes have been collected and an estimated 30 more were sighted in the Pt. Mugu lagoon. OSPR and OWCN personnel are working with the staff of the Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station to capture, stabilize, and transport birds.

The OWCN has been activated to respond to oiled birds that have been found on area beaches. A team of three OWCN staff will join a team from the Office of Spill Prevention and Response in Ventura. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
