Oiled Wildlife Rehabilitation Protocols

Avian Protocols

Birds require for their feathers to be in perfect condition for the purposes of waterproofing. Oil disrupts this waterproofing and preening simply results in spreading the oil further. In addition, birds ingest oil, a toxic substance. The protocol outlines the steps in rehabilitating avian victims of oil spills.

Mammal Protocols

The protocols for the treatment of oiled mammals were recently revised.
