Finances Fees and Housing
The goal of the graduate group is to provide financial support for domestic students in the program through university fellowships, federal and other research or training grants, and teaching positions.
Fellowships administered by the university are available on a competitive basis to qualified applicants and continuing students. Applications for fellowships are included in the Application for Admission and Fellowships; deadline for application for fellowships is January 15. The Graduate Group in Comparative Pathology provides small stipends or non-resident tuition fee waivers through the Block Grant Program provided by The Office of Graduate Studies. These awards are based on academic achievement and promise. The group does not administer research or training funds. Inquiries about the availability of these forms of support should be addressed to prospective major professors or department chairs.

UC Davis NIH-IMSD Award Program for Minorities
UC Davis offers the prestigious National Institutes of Health-Initiative for Minority Student Development (NIH-IMSD) Graduate Study Awards to outstanding minority graduate students entering doctoral programs in the life sciences.
These awards provide $17,000 for living expenses plus all tuition and student fees. The award is renewable for a second year. An additional three years of support are guaranteed through other sources of graduate student funding, such as research or teaching assistantships, assuming satisfactory progress is made toward earning the Ph.D. degree. Thus, the IMSD award provides five full years of guaranteed support for graduate study.
NIH-IMSD graduate fellows at UCD get an early start on their graduate program through a summer bridge program and then build connections with other student and faculty colleagues in the life sciences through special seminars throughout the academic year. The summer bridge program, beginning in August of the summer preceding graduate school entry, includes seven weeks of research rotation and a seminar course that emphasizes scientific skills development and orientation to campus scientific facilities. Living expenses during the summer program are provided as part of the award.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and members of one of the following minority groups:
African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics or Pacific Islanders.
