Medical Teaching Hospital, STARTING DATE: August 1, 2009 CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: Received by December 1, 2008 (or until filled) QUALIFICATIONS: D.V.M. or equivalent degree from and accredited veterinary school and academically qualified for admission as a graduate student to the University of California, Davis. Demonstrated interest in a career in zoo or wildlife pathology. DESCRIPTION: Residency training in anatomic pathology suitable for persons with limited or no post-D.V.M. training in pathology. Training consists of two years at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital developing basic skills in morphologic pathology and acquiring a fundamental understanding of the pathogenesis of diseases via rotating assignments to pathology services under the guidance of eight ACVP pathologists. Casework at the VMTH is 85% domestic animals and 15% zoo and wild animals or exotic pets. The third year is located at the San Diego Zoo and consists of case-based training under the tutelage of three ACVP pathologists. The program is designed for persons intending to take the certifying examination of the A.C.V.P. and to pursue a Ph.D. degree in comparative pathology. Click here for further information.
