Wenbin Deng, Ph.D.
Medicine: Cell Biology & Human Anatomy

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy at School of Medicine. I obtained my postdoctoral fellowship training in Neurology at Harvard Medical School, received my Ph.D. from Rutgers University, and completed my medical education in China. My laboratory conducts basic and translational research on nervous system development, toxicity, and disease. Emphasis is on signaling mechanisms of neuronal and glial cell death, excitotoxic, oxidative and inflammatory forms of injury to the developing brain, stem cell biology, and regenerative medicine. Potential research topics for STAR students include 1) modeling cerebral palsy in mice to study disease pathogenesis and to evaluate drug efficacy, 2) neuron-glia co-culture to elucidate disease signaling pathways, and 3) stem cell-derived neural cells for assessment of neurotoxicity.
