My research is focused on airways epithelial, mesenchymal and inflammatory/immune cell interaction. Interaction of these cells maintains homeostasis (ability to combat infectious disease, removal and/or repair of injured cells) in the lung. My laboratory is interested in asthma, pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema as models for investigation. We use whole animals (mice and monkeys) and in vitro culture of primary monkey airway epithelial cells to explore mechanisms in these lung diseases. My laboratories are located at the California National Primate Research Center.
Projects available for student participation during the Summer 2008 include:
Students are invited to participate in any of these ongoing projects, although participation is dependent on student interest, background and qualifications, and capabilities. In special circumstances, a student may conduct an original project of special interest to be completed during the summer session. Please email me (dmhyde@primate.ucdavis.edu) and I would be happy to discuss how participation in my laboratory can best be facilitated.
