Dr. Murphy is an anatomical pathologist. His research interests involve cytokine-induced regulation of lentiviral promoters and its relationship to disease. He has ongoing projects with the goat lentivirus caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) and new studies involving the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). In order to address the question of transcriptional regulation, his lab employs molecular techniques to generate chimeric lentiviruses with manipulated LTR promoters. He is also interested in the analysis of virus-induced histological lesions and lesion correlation with viral genotype. He has a strong interest in student education and would enjoy discussing any ideas pertaining to lentiviral transcription and disease pathogenesis in cats or goats.
