Dr. Kent is both a medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist. His research interest lies in the underlying mechanisms of cancer and how to take advantage of these pathways in its treatment. He is also working on understanding how to make tumors more sensitive to the effects of ionizing radiation. He has worked on several projects with STAR students in the past including the presence of BCL-2 and VEGF in canine melanoma and the use of a COX-2 inhibitor in sensitizing melanoma cells to the effects of irradiation. He is also interested in ways to decrease the side effects seen with radiation therapy. Please contact Dr. Kent at: mskent@ucdavis.edu
