Summer fellowships in the STAR Program are $6000. The entire award will be allocated directly to the recipients as a living stipend only no later than 1 July. External fellowships and disbursements are subject to policies governing the funding agency.

Submission of a STAR Program application indicates that a successful applicant agrees to all of the following “Conditions of Award:”

  • Students are expected to commit full time effort to their project for the entire period of award. Other activities the student may engage in cannot conflict or otherwise interfere with the ability of the student to participate fulltime in their research project.

  • Conduct research within the 12 week summer period beginning Monday, June 16, 2008 and ending Friday, September 5th. With the approval of the mentor, up to two weeks can be used for vacation, sick leave, etc.

  • Mandatory attendance at and participation in the 2008 Laboratory Practices Orientation, scheduled for Monday, June 23rd through Tuesday, June 24th. Exemptions will be allowed only if the student has previously participated in the STAR program and has previously participated in the Laboratory Practices Orientation.

  • Attend the Dyar Memorial Lecture Series in May and the Schalm Lecture in September.

  • Students must be aware that individual funding sources that support the STAR Program come with their own criteria for presentation of research findings(e.g., poster, oral presentation, attendance at meeting, etc.).

  • Submit a one page written summary of the funded research project to the STAR Program no later than October 1st, 2008. This summary can be sent as an e-mail attachment in Word format to svmstarprogram@ucdavis.edu or mailed to the SVM Office of Research & Graduate Education, University of California, One Shields Avenue, Davis, CA, 95616

  • Acknowledge STAR Program funding support in any publications resulting from the research project.
