Susan Stover, DVM, PhD, Dipl ACVS
JD Wheat Veterinary Orthopedic Research Laboratory

Dr. Stover’s clinical training and experience is in equine surgery.  Her graduate work on bucked shins in Thoroughbred racehorses further focused her interests on musculoskeletal research.  Currently, she directs activities in the JD Wheat Veterinary Orthopedic Research Laboratory which is a multi-user laboratory that supports morphologic, histomorphologic, microradiographic, biomechanical and computer modeling and simulation investigations of musculoskeletal problems in a variety of species of animals.

Specific research focuses include:
1.  biomechanics, etiopathogenesis, and epidemiology of equine musculoskeletal injuries
2.  functional anatomy and biomechanics of musculoskeletal structures (all species)
3.  evaluation of the effectiveness of surgical procedures involving musculoskeletal structures (all species)
4.  development of new or enhanced clinical tests for use in the diagnosis of equine lameness

Her laboratory supports the research of undergraduate, professional (DVM), graduate, and postdoctoral students, as well as, clinical residents.  She can be contacted through email at smstover@ucdavis.edu.
