Leslie Lyons, PhD: Genetic map construction; disease gene mapping; feline domestication . Dr. Lyons research is focused on comparative genetics of companion animals, including cats, dogs, and horses. Additionally, Dr. Lyons is a Staff Scientist of the California National Primate Research Center and her work focuses on including genetic aspects in the study design of the other CNPRC staff scientists and external primate researchers. Dr. Lyons has funding to develop the genetic maps of the cat and dog and to address inherited diseases of the domestic cat. Dr. Lyons strongest interest is in inherited traits of the domestic cat, including retinal degeneration, polycystic kidney disease, lymphosarcoma, cranialfacial development, coat colors and overall genetic diversity of cat breeds. Dr. Lyons provided the genetics that supported both cloning efforts in the cat and has recently identified the cause of feline PKD, which is the most prevalent heritable condition in the domestic cat.
