Role of membrane phase transition in platelet activation; definition of the cellular and signaling events associated with   platelet activation; the role of membrane dynamics and microdomains in platelet activation.   Our laboratory uses horse platelets as a model system to understand alterations in lipids and proteins during platelet activation.  As part of these studies we have a family of animals with a receptor/signaling defect which allows for dissection of platelet activation pathways.  Students will have the opportunity to conduct biophysical, biochemical and cell biological studies designed to understand the interaction of lipids and proteins during platelet activation.
