Nili Karmi is currently working on the genetic predisposition for uric acid stone formation in dogs. Dalmatian dogs are known to have a genetic defect. The Bannasch lab has identified the mutation in Dalmatian dogs and Nili is working on identifying it in non-Dalmatian breeds. Nili is currently evaluating a genetic test for the mutation. The genetic test will allow breeders to make educated breeding choices in the breeds carrying the mutation. |
