Prospective DVM Students

VSTP applications are accepted annually from prospective DVM students who have applied to, or who have been accepted in, a graduate group at UC Davis. Successful VSTP applicants will be chosen based on the following factors:

  • Commitment to research
  • Quality of the proposed research program
  • Letters of evaluation from persons familiar with the applicant's past/present research
  • Scholastic achievement (undergraduate/graduate programs)
  • Graduate Record Examination (taken no later than Sept. 30)

DVM APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 2nd of the application year

PhD APPLICATION DEADLINE: Check program of study.


1. Completed DVM application (submitted via VMCAS).

2. The following 3 items must be uploaded to the DVM Applicant Portal* by November 1, 2013.

  • VSTP Application Form (pdf) (Note: Please DOWNLOAD the form and use Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to fill out and save the form. DO NOT attempt to fill out the form with a browser plug-in or Preview.)
  • Copy of PhD Application (in PDF form) for admission when filed by graduate group application deadline or a copy of acceptance letter from the Graduate Group. If you have not yet applied, please indicate that in the VSTP Application PDF.
  • Resumé or curriculum vitae and list of any publications (in PDF form).

3. GRE Scores taken no later than Sept. 1 sent directly to UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Institution Code 4804.

4. In addition to the REQUIRED 3 PPI Evaluations and 3 VMCAS Letters of Recommendation for the DVM program, applicants to the VSTP program must submit a minimum of 2 additional letters of recommendation from research scientists which address your research potential.

5. All Official College Transcripts

Letters of Recommendation and Transcripts must be postmarked by October 2nd and mailed to:
