Class of 2012 - New Student “411”


Bookmark and check this Website periodically throughout the summer for Orientation details, registration and the payment of fees, and other updated information that you will need prior to matriculation!

1. Complete the online  Accept/Decline Appointment form as soon as possible, but no later than April 15, 2008.

2. Student ID numbers:  The Student Programs Office will email your UC Davis student ID number at the end of May.  Your ID number will enable you to establish a campus computing account and activate your university email.  This will allow you to conduct university business that includes payment of your registration fees, financial aid, purchase of parking permits, etc.

3.  Financial Aid:  Read "Financing Your Veterinary Medical Education" and review your financial options. If you wish to be considered for financial aid, apply at www.fafsa.org immediately if you have not already done so. Once you have your student ID number (in late May) and have activated your student account, you will be able to view your Financial Aid Notice online. Questions regarding your financial aid should be directed to the financial aid analyst for veterinary students.

4. Medical Requirements:  Complete the Medical Entrance Requirements form and review information about the university's mandatory health insurance policy on the Cowell Student Health Center Web site. Requirements and recommendations for vaccinations and health clearance documentation are listed on their Web site as well as information about the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).

5. Statement of Legal Residency:  Download, complete and mail the Statement of Legal Residency to the Office of the University Registrar, One Shields Avenue, Davis, CA 95616 by June 2, 2008. Link here for Residency Guidelines and FAQs. Specific questions should be directed to the Office of the University Registrar at 530/752-4749.

6. Course requirements:  Complete all pre-requisite courses and unit requirements by August 22, 2008. All course work and pre-requisite courses must be completed with a GPA of 2.50 or better. (Please note: Specific courses have been listed in your acceptance letter if we have determined that you had not completed them by the October 2007 application deadline.

7. Transcripts:  Order your final transcripts with your degree posted.  Transcripts must be official and include all course work for the academic year 2007-2008.  Students who have not taken any course work since submitting their applications in October 2007, are not required to order additional copies of their transcripts.  Transcripts must be received by August 22, 2008. (Note to students enrolling in summer sessions 2008:  You are required to submit your transcripts for the academic year 2007-2008 by August 22, 2008 including courses taken during the summer session.

8.  Registration and Enrollment:  Registration fees for Fall Quarter will be due in September.  You will not enroll yourself in your veterinary courses.  The Student Programs Office will automatically enroll you in your core curriculum.  You will be given information about enrolling in your elective courses during Orientation.  Detailed information regarding the payment of registration fees and course enrollment procedures will be posted on the Welcome Website during the summer.

9.  Orientation:  Your veterinary school education begins with mandatory Orientation, tentatively scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.  Information regarding Orientation details will be posted on the Welcome Web site during the summer.

10. Academic Calendar:  Review the Academic Calendar for 2008-2009 and make sure you know when school is in session so you won’t have any scheduling conflicts with other activities.

11.  Message Board: In June you will receive information from a member of the Class of 2011 who will set up an online website (Yahoo Message Board, facebook, or MySpace, etc.) for your class. The Class of 2011 liaison will be able to answer your questions about Davis and life as a vet student.

12. Parking:  Purchase a campus parking permit if you wish to park your vehicle on campus. You may purchase a permit on-line once you have a student ID number (in late May), or you may purchase a permit in-person at the TAPS office www.taps.ucdavis.edu

13. Contact Information:  Promptly update your contact information when your address, phone number or email changes.  Use our online address update form.
