In September 2007,The UC Regents endorsed a three-year (2008-09 through 2010-11) plan of
fees for students in professional degree programs and approved professional fee increases for
the 2008-09 academic year. The three-year plan, intended to help schools maintain and
enhance the quality of their programs while providing more predictability for students, calls for
fee increases of 7 percent annually for the School of Veterinary Medicine.
For the 2008-09 academic year, a 7 percent increase will be applied to the professional school
student fee, mandatory systemwide fees and campus-based fees for veterinary medicine. For
your reference, the current year registration fees can be viewed at the Office of Resource
Management and Planning website. Fee increases in the Regents’ plan are based on currently
foreseeable circumstances and are subject to change.
School administrators reassure current and future students that the School and campus support
a robust financial aid program to preserve access and affordability to the veterinary program
and mitigate the effects of fee increases. We plan to use 33% of all new fee revenue to
increase grant assistance. Additionally, the School has an outstanding scholarship program
that last year provided over 600 awards totaling $1.5 million. The School’s development team
routinely cultivates new donors and friends interested in investing in the veterinary education.
We remain committed to raising additional private scholarships to offset the increased
educational costs.
