Strengthening leadership abilities, increasing industry knowledge, and educating for personal and professional development.
Welcome to 'Leadership' within the Career, Leadership and Wellness Center! We are excited to offer leadership experiences to you and would like to share our thinking and philosophy:
- Leadership is a learned set of behaviors and ways of thinking: about oneself, about others, about the many different ways that organizations create and sustain their culture.
- Because leadership is learned, it is like all learning: it requires focused attention and determination from the learner … and if it was ‘easy’, then everyone would do it and it wouldn’t be worthy of anyone’s focused attention and determination. Leadership is hard … and that’s why so few people become excellent leaders.
- And because leadership is hard, it can’t be fully learned either easily or quickly!
- That’s why our leadership programs are graduated: everything from simple passive learning (our 1 Hour Leadership talks), to programs that require a serious and disciplined effort and amount of time to master (our Professional Concentration in ‘Personal Development & Leadership’ which will launch Spring 2015).
No one is a born leader … and not everyone wants or needs to be a leader … however, every organization (from a student club to the School of Veterinary Medicine) needs good leaders, and that is the main mission of our ‘Leadership’ programs… to give every student at the School of Veterinary Medicine the chance to find out if leadership is something they want to learn and, over time, master.
If you are curious to learn more or have ideas for future programming, feel free to send an email to the Director of Leadership Programs.
