Externships
Externships provide off-campus work and learning opportunities for veterinary students in private and corporate practices, humane societies, governmental agencies and pharmaceutical/pet food companies. Senior students participating in approved externships receive academic credit. Externship participation prior to the senior year is not for credit, and compensation may or may not be offered.

Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP) (available February 1)
The California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) compiles an annual list of veterinary practitioners interested in employing veterinary students in their practices during the summer. The objective of SWEP is to connect veterinarians with veterinary students to gain valuable real-world experience in medicine and practice management. Veterinarians may hire high-quality, knowledgeable veterinary students; students can gain valuable work experience and minimize debt load.

A binder containing hard copies of SWEP listings is available in Room 2041, Valley Hall.

Search all student employment opportunities posted at the UC Davis Student Employment Center. This service is available to all registered students and their spouses year-round and one quarter prior and following their enrollment period; students may also use the Student Employment Center during planned educational leave.

Part-time Vet Tech and research opportunities are occasionally available on the UC Davis Internship and Career Center Aggie Job Link.

  • Once in Aggie Job Link you will create a profile, then you 'll be able to search listings. To search veterinary positions, scroll to Preferred Function and click "veterinary" for the most listings related to Veterinary Medicine.
