UC Davis Mosquito Researcher Receives Distinguished Service Award

DAVIS—Research entomologist William Reisen of the Center for Vectorborne Diseases, University of California, Davis, has received a distinguished service award from the international Society of Vector Ecology (SOVE) for his service to the medical entomology profession.

The award, presented at the society’s recent meeting in Anchorage, pays tribute to his mosquito surveillance and control research, publications and public service.

Reisen, adjunct professor with the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, researches the population ecology of Culex tarsalis and other mosquitoes and their vertebrate hosts in relation to the epidemiology, surveillance and control.

SOVE, founded in Orange County, Calif., in 1968 and based in Corona, publishes the biannual Journal of Vector Ecology. Reisen joined the organization in 1983.
