Non-Domestic/Exotic
Species
|
 |
Non-domestic
and exotic species are a growing group
of animals in demand of veterinary care. Captive
wildlife, birds, fish, primates, and many laboratory
species are maintained by federal, state and private
institutions in production, conservation and research
programs and by numerous individuals as pets.
Faculty in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology
are addressing key concerns associated with these
animals as they relate to: |
- Improved management and care
- Assisted reproduction and gene banking and therapy
- Cognitive functions
- Causes and cures for infectious diseases
- Improvements in our understanding of the effects
of diseases at the population level
