Food Animal Medicine

Food Animal Medicine is the synthesis of internal medicine, population medicine and epidemiology to maximize health, well being and productivity of the food animal species including dairy and beef cattle, swine, goats, sheep, poultry and fish, which ultimately result in a high quality and safe food products for consumers throughout the world.  Speciality areas include:

  • Advances in diagnostics and treatment of disease in food animal species
  • The effects of disease on performance in food animal populations
  • The development of new management strategies to maximize food animal  health and productivity
  • Act as an innovator and conduit of new technology to food technology to food animal populations that increase efficiency of production systems

RESEARCH AREAS INCLUDE:

Caprine arthritis, encephalitis virus infection, foothill abortion, trichomoniasis, chlamydia vaccine development, pinkeye, camphylobacter vaccine development and Salmonella.
