Eric Johnson, DVM, DACVR - Chief of Service

Dr. Eric Johnson received his DVM from UC Davis, and also completed a residency at UC Davis. Currently he is Chief of the Diagnostic Imaging Service and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging. Dr. Johnson’s special interests include diagnostic ultrasound and imaging of lymphatic pathways.

Derek Cissell, VMD, PhD, DACVR

Dr. Derek Cissell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. He worked in a mixed-animal private practice in Utah for two years before moving to UC Davis in 2007 to pursue a residency in veterinary radiology and PhD in biomedical engineering. Dr. Cissell joined the UC Davis faculty in 2016. His clinical interests include musculoskeletal radiology, equine radiology, and advanced imaging. Dr. Cissell’s research works toward applying biomedical imaging to assess tissue function and improve diagnosis of musculoskeletal injuries.

Kathryn Phillips, DVM, DACVR

Dr. Kathryn Phillips graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. The following year she completed a rotating internship at Southwest Equine Medical and Surgical Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. This was followed by a year at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies, where Dr. Phillips was a clinical instructor and an intern in diagnostic imaging. Dr. Phillips completed her residency in diagnostic imaging at North Carolina State University in 2013. She then stayed at North Carolina State University an additional year as an assistant professor before joining UC Davis.

Rachel Pollard DVM, PhD, DACVR

Dr. Rachel Pollard attended the University of Washington in Seattle for her undergraduate work and Washington State University for her DVM. She then moved to New York for a one-year internship at the Animal Medical Center. Dr. Pollard then came to UC Davis and completed a four-year residency in diagnostic imaging. She then completed a PhD in Comparative Pathology at UC Davis, and joined the faculty in April 2005. Dr. Pollard is an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Imaging. Her areas of research focus primarily on quantitative imaging techniques using both contrast enhanced computed tomography and contrast enhanced ultrasound to evaluate tumor blood flow. Additionally, she has a clinical interest in dynamic imaging techniques such as contrast fluoroscopy for the diagnosis of swallowing disorders.

Mathieu Spriet, DVM, MS, DACVR, DECVDI

Dr. Mathieu Spriet received his DVM from the National Veterinary School of Lyon, France, in 2002. He then completed an internship in equine medicine and surgery, as well as a Master’s degree at the University of Montreal. He joined the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 for a diagnostic imaging residency. In 2007, Dr. Spriet became a diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Radiology and European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. That same year, he joined the faculty at UC Davis as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Imaging. His clinical interests are in equine advanced diagnostic imaging, including magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and nuclear scintigraphy.

Erik Wisner, DVM, DACVR

Dr. Erik Wisner received his DVM from UC Davis in 1983. Following five years in mixed practice, he returned to UC Davis and completed a radiology residency and became board certified in the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 1991. He held a joint faculty appointment with the UC Davis Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Medicine from 1992-1997. He served as head of radiology at the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine from 1997 until 2000, at which time he returned to UC Davis. Dr. Wisner is currently a Professor of Diagnostic Imaging and Chair of the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences. His clinical interests are in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In addition to clinical, research and instructional duties, he is an Associate Hospital Director for Imaging Services in the VMTH and is a past president of the American College of Veterinary Radiology.

Allison Zwingenberger, DVM, DACVR, DECVDI

Dr. Allison Zwingenberger received her DVM degree from the University of Guelph in 1995. She completed a rotating internship at the University of Georgia in 1997, followed by 5 years in small animal and mixed practice. Dr. Zwingenberger completed her residency in diagnostic imaging at the University of Pennsylvania in 2004, where she remained as a lecturer for an additional year. Dr. Zwingenberger joined the faculty in 2005 and is an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Imaging. Her research interests include CT angiography of portosystemic shunts and targeted cancer imaging. Dr. Zwingenberger's clinical interests are in small animal diagnostics and cross-sectional imaging.

Kelsey Brust, DVM - Resident III

Dr. Kelsey Brust grew up in Southern California, and received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from UC Davis. She then continued on to receive her veterinary degree from UC Davis in 2014. She completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at California Veterinary Specialists in San Diego before beginning her residency training in diagnostic imaging in 2015.

Rebecca Donnelly, DVM - Resident I

Dr. Rebecca Donnelly received her veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2016. She then completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Wisconsin before beginning her residency training in diagnostic imaging at UC Davis in 2017.

Ehren McLarty, DVM - Resident II

Dr. Ehren M. McLarty received her veterinary degree from UC Davis in 2015. She completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center before beginning her residency in radiology and diagnostic imaging at UC Davis in 2016.

Britton Nixon, DVM - Resident III

Dr. Britton Nixon attended Smith college for undergraduate studies and earned her veterinary degree from Oregon State University in 2014. She completed a one-year rotating equine medicine and surgery internship at North Carolina State University prior to starting a diagnostic imaging residency at UC Davis in 2015.

Amy Norvall, DVM - Resident III

Dr. Amy Norvall is originally from Zimbabwe. She received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and her veterinary degree from Louisiana State University. Dr. Norvall then completed an internship at Virginia Equine Imaging, where she subsequently stayed on as a senior associate veterinarian. She began her residency with the Diagnostic Imaging Service in 2015.

Mason Wanamaker, DVM - Resident II

Dr. Mason Wanamaker grew up in western Canada and received his veterinary degree from the University of Calgary in 2013. He completed a one-year small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. He then spent a few years in small animal practice in British Columbia before starting a diagnostic imaging residency at UC Davis in 2016.

Kyle Wakeman, DVM - Resident IV

Dr. Kyle Wakeman grew up in Northern California and Southern Oregon. He attended Humboldt State University where he attained BS degrees in zoology and marine biology. He then went on to earn his veterinary degree from Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Wakeman then completed a one-year internship at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego, before starting his residency in 2014.

Sabrina Wilson, SVM - Resident I

Dr. Sabrina Wilson graduated from Stanford University before attending veterinary school at UC Davis. After completing veterinary school in 2015, she interned at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Centre in GIlbert, Arizona, followed by an internship in diagnostic imaging at the Veterinary Imaging Center of San Diego. Dr. Wilson began her radiology residency at UC Davis in 2017.
