Fellowship Training Program in Equine Emergency and Critical Care Medicine
The fellowship provides advanced clinical training dealing with equine emergency and critical care medicine.
The fellow has primary responsibility for medical ICU/critical care cases of the Large Animal Clinic. the fellow participates in operation of the equine neonatal, medical, and isolation ICU facilities, and assists in teaching veterinary students. The fellow organizes and schedules patients for daily programs of the Large Animal Clinic including weekly Large Animal Grand Rounds. Fellow and Residents share out-of-hours emergency duty on a rotational basis. Out-of-clinic time is provided for clinical research and creative writing. Participation in the Annual House Officer Seminar Day is mandatory. Successful completion of the fellowship training will fulfill requirements for taking the ACVECC boards.
The fellow works with a mentor who is a diplomate of the ACVECC and several faculty members who are diplomates in the ACVIM.
Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited school of veterinary medicine, a one-year internship or equivalent practice experience, and completion of an ACVIM-approved residency in large animal internal medicine by July 31, 2008. The fellowship is a two-year program for Diplomates of the ACVIM and up to three years for non-Dipomates. Selection is based on academic achievement, career objectives, letters of recommendation, and pertinent experience.
