Doppler Echocardiograms

echocolor.jpg (37884 bytes)

This color flow Doppler echocardiogram shows the aorta (AO) and a portion of a pulmonary artery below it, almost totally occluded by the structure seen previously on the two-dimensional echocardiograms. There is flow going around the structure. The flow is markedly reduced in size and is turbulent.

echocolor2.jpg (40410 bytes)

This color flow Doppler echocardiogram shows a larger flow pattern in the right ventricular outflow tract in systole. The flow again is turbulent. The size of this jet is probably large enough to explain the heart murmur heard on physical examination.

cw.jpg (39903 bytes)

The continuous wave Doppler echocardiogram has been used to measure the peak systolic flow velocity in the right ventricular outflow tract. The peak velocity is only around 2 meters/second.
