Left Bundle Branch

This is a post mortem specimen of the opened left ventricle from a dog. The left bundle branch has been stained with iodine (darker, linear areas). The conduction system of the heart is rich in glycogen, which is stained readily by iodine. Note that the left bundle branch bifurcates into two large branches from the base of the heart toward the apex in this dog with a network of interconnecting bands between them. Also note that the large band to the left of this picture terminates in a false tendon. (Courtesy of Dr. Darcy Adin)
