Rob Rebhun, DVM, PhD, DACVIM - Chief of Service

Dr. Rob Rebhun received his veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2002. In 2006, he earned a PhD in cancer biology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston/M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Rebhun then completed a medical oncology residency at the Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University. He joined UC Davis in 2008. Dr. Rebhun’s research focus is in the field of comparative and translational oncology, with specific interests in metastasis and novel therapeutics.

Jenna Burton, DVM, MS, DACVIM

Dr. Jenna Burton earned her veterinary degree from The Ohio State University in 2006, followed by an internship in small animal medicine and surgery and a residency in medical oncology at Colorado State University. She is board certified in internal medicine with a subspecialty of oncology. Following her residency, Dr. Burton remained at CSU as an assistant professor of oncology where she was responsible for the day-to-day management of, and recruitment of patients to, all clinical trials at the CSU Animal Cancer Center. She joined UC Davis in 2014. Her research interests include comparative and translational oncology and development of novel therapeutics through clinical trials.

Katherine Hansen, DVM, DACVR

Dr. Katherine Hansen received her veterinary degree from UC Davis in 2008. Following veterinary school, she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. She stayed on at Penn as a post-doctoral associate in radiation biology with an emphasis on nanoparticle development and hypoxia research from 2009 – 2011. Dr. Hansen then returned to UC Davis to complete her residency training in radiation oncology, and joined the faculty in 2014. Her research interest is in clinical radiation oncology with an emphasis on advanced radiation therapy and patient positioning.

Michael Kent, DVM, MAS, DACVIM, DAVCR

Dr. Michael Kent received his veterinary degree from UC Davis in 1997. He then completed an internship in small animal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kent went on to complete residencies in both medical and radiation oncology at UC Davis, as well as a National Institute of Health-sponsored 2-year clinical research training program. He is board certified by both the American College of Veterinary Radiology and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Kent’s research interests focus on clinical and technical aspects of radiation oncology and targeted therapies.

Katherine Skorupski, DVM, DACVIM

Dr. Katherine Skorupski received her veterinary degree from Texas A&M University in 2000. She then completed two rotating internships at All-Care Animal Referral Center in Fountain Valley, California and at the Ohio State University before going on to the University of Pennsylvania, where she trained as a resident in medical oncology. She became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (oncology) in 2005, and remained at Penn as a clinical lecturer. Dr. Skorupski joined UC Davis in 2006. Her research interests include histiocytic sarcoma, feline oral squamous cell carcinoma, and canine osteosarcoma.

Alain Theon, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVR

Dr. Alain Theon received his veterinary degree (1982) and PhD (1986) from France’s National Veterinary School of Alfort, and an MS for UC Davis in 1989. He is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Radiology (radiation oncology). Dr. Theon specializes in radiation oncology, intratumoral chemotherapy, hyperthermia, tumor immunotherapy, and equine oncology. His research focuses on oncology and immunotherapy.

Jennifer Willcox, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology)

Dr. Jenn Willcox received her veterinary degree from Ohio State University in 2008, followed by a small animal rotating internship at a private practice in the Bay Area. She then pursued an oncology specialty internship at a private practice in Tampa, Florida and a fellowship performing bone marrow transplants in dogs with lymphoma at North Carolina State University. Subsequently, she stayed on at NC State to complete a medical oncology residency. She became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (oncology) in 2014. Prior to her return to the west cost in 2015, Dr. Willcox held a one-­‐year clinical instructor position with the University of Missouri. Her research interests include cancer imaging techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET) and clinical trials geared toward novel therapeutic/drug development.

Rhonda Burge, DVM - Resident I

Dr. Rhonda Burge earned her veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota in 2016. She then completed a one-year rotating internship at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver before beginning her medical oncology residency at UC Davis in 2017.

Dr. Marissa Ruppel received her veterinary degree from North Carolina State University. Following graduation, she completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Minnesota before beginning her residency at UC Davis.

Sarah Vidal, DVM - Resident I

Dr. Sarah Vidal obtained her veterinary degree from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Upon graduation, she spent one year as a rotating intern at the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. Following, Dr. Vidal spent a year as an oncology specialty intern at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego before beginning her medical oncology residency at UC Davis in 2017.
